You can now take photos with your Symbian device and upload them to your online album while notifying friends and relations about the latest updates via email.

The challenge

With the surge in the popularity of camera phones Kodak, the
world’s most recognised photography brand, had the vision of
allowing customers access to their digital pictures anytime and
from anywhere. Kodak wished to create an application that would
enable customers to upload pictures and videos from their
smartphone to a central server, where they could be shared with
family and friends, and pictures could be ordered as prints.
Nokia's S60 devices have a significant market share in camera
phones making this platform a natural choice for the Kodak
Mobile application.

Our role & achievements

EMCC developed the application for S60 mobile phones which allows the user to manage their pictures and share them and save them to the centralised web service. Communication from the phone to the central server uses XML over HTTP.

EMCC Software’s primary role in this project was to develop the
S60 application in accordance with Kodak’s specifications and to
test the application thoroughly in a live environment and in
combination with Kodak’s back-end servers.

As well as developing the application and porting it to a full range
of Nokia S60 devices, EMCC also took the Kodak client through
the Symbian Signed certification process – this was one of the
first applications to complete that process.

The Kodak project has been so successful that Nokia have elected
to integrate the client application into their S60 Platform handsets
as a Total Product Offering (TPO) so that their handsets are
delivered to customers with Kodak Mobile as part of the package.
