Messaging and Communications

The critical experience required for the vast majority of mobile product solutions is the ability to develop applications with communications technology as this is the defining characteristic of mobile platforms.

From the company’s inception, EMCC has been involved in developing messaging and communications based solutions. This includes developing the messaging MTMs for the Symbian platform itself. EMCC’s project experience includes:

Call Management Solution

Working with a major Network Operator to implement a Symbian OS client to interact with their existing PC management software, that performs call, contact and SMS management over Bluetooth. After several other Symbian software companies had said the solution was not possible our initial feasibility study and fully featured application proved otherwise.

Bluetooth Stack implementation

Implementing a Bluetooth Stack, including device driver modifications and profile development for a Series 60 Licensee. Involves implementing a Comms server plug-in (CSY), interacting with ETel and the Media Server plus writing a DOS server plug-in (DSY).

Implementing Messaging for Symbian

Developing & integrating the MMS MTMs (plug-in message type modules) into Symbian OS v7.0 and beyond. Within the messaging framework there are Messaging Type Modules (MTMs) which are “plug-in” modules that allow developers to extend the capabilities of the messaging system. EMCC was responsible for providing this functionality. This project involved development of core technologies such as SMS, MMS, Email, Bio Messaging, Bluetooth, IR and Fax through their associated MTMs. EMCC also made a significant contribution to a review of the IMAP architecture.

Licensee MMS Implementations

Working with Symbian Licensees developing MMS engine solutions for Symbian based phones.
