Getting around Barcelona
This year is the third year that the Mobile World Congress is held in Barcelona. 2007 proved to be very successful with a record number of exhibitors and attendees the event has seen to date. This year is anticipated to be even bigger and more successful as hotels are fully booked across the city and an estimated 60,000 people are expected to attend.
Food and drink: there are plenty of food venues inside the congress and there is a hospitality area in the central courtyard with various coffee shops and restaurants serving throughout the day. Lunch time is the busiest period and if you want to avoid the lunch rush there are some nice restaurants and bakeries in the streets surrounding Fira de Barcelona especially on Carrer de Lleida (behind Hall 1 & 2) which runs off Avinguda del Paral-lel.
Metro: all exhibitors will be eligible for a free weekly metro pass which will be provided at registration and can be used unlimitedly throughout the duration of the congress. Please note the metro is closed between 00:00 and 06:00. The metro station at the congress is called Espanya.
There are two lines that run from the metro station at Placa d’Espanya where 3GSM is located (Fira de Barcelona):
L3 (green line) is arguably the most useful of these as it comes from Barcelona's main railway station (Sants Estacio) then follows Avinguda del Paral-lel back up through Las Ramblas to Placa de Catalunya and on to Passeig de Gracia, the prestigious shopping area.
L1 (red line) runs directly to Placa de Catalunya and straight through the city.
Taxis: the taxi ranks at Placa d'Espanya are always very busy at the end of every day creating long queues outside the entrance. Last year this died down after 19:00 onwards. Taxis in Barcelona are yellow and black and are available only when the green light is showing on the roof-top box.
