As a preferred supplier, EMCC has been working directly with Symbian on developing components for all versions of the platform.
Symbian Competence Centre
Symbian established their Competence Center programme to provide a reservoir of development expertise available to all organisations throughout the mobile sector. The programme is for independent companies that have the specialist skills to contribute to the creation and development of Symbian OS phones. As one of the first Competence Centers, EMCC is involved in implementing new technologies on the platform, assisting manufacturers to integrate new features and capabilities onto handsets and creating Symbian OS applications for a wide range of organisations.
Symbian Development Experience
One of the first projects involved implementation of the various APIs that provide the messaging capability within the platform. Within the messaging framework there are Messaging Type Modules (MTMs) which are “plug-in” modules that allow developers to extend the capabilities of the messaging system. EMCC was responsible for providing this functionality. This project involved development of core technologies such as SMS, MMS, Email, Bio Messaging, Bluetooth, IR and Fax through their associated MTMs. EMCC also made a significant contribution to a review of the IMAP architecture.
Since 2000, EMCC has been working with Symbian’s PIM and Browsing team to provide development expertise in areas such as Calendar (including Group Scheduling, Time Zones and Daylight Saving), Contacts, Synchronisation (implementing key functionality in SyncML) and Browsing technologies.
Another important long term project has involved working with the Symbian UI framework team to develop the UIKON UI library and various components. This project also included developing various aspects of Graphics and the Window server for the platform.
EMCC continues to work on important development projects for Symbian and due to consistent excellence in delivery has long been established as a preferred supplier. Symbian Training Partner
EMCC Software provides expert developer training in the latest versions of the Symbian platform, S60 3rd Edition and UIQ 3.To answer the growing demand for training in Symbian development techniques, Symbian created its Training Program. EMCC Software has been a member of this program since it was initiated and has provided expert training in all parts of the world to a wide variety of organisations. As well as courses specifically tailored to S60 and UIQ development. EMCC has also created specialist training modules and can provide bespoke courses on any aspect of Symbian development.
